I am loving this cooler weather we are having this week. Last Sunday, in the 90's...this morning, in the 40's! I know all the people up north just laugh at us when we get our jackets out and it's 50, but that's okay...after 90's, 40's are chilly! I have so many wonderful memories tied to Autumn. Of course, Football season. Growing up with a daddy who was a head football coach and a mother who took us to every game, we have grown up with such a love of this sport! When I was in 2nd grade and we lived in Comanche, Texas, we lived just on the other side of the football field. You crossed through this little wooded area (wouldn't be allowed to do that these days, but back then, we could) and then to the field to see daddy in the afternoons. They had these huge ice blocks that they chipped away ice from for the players, and we would have these big chunks of ice to eat and that was a treat! I am pretty sure that is why I am so addicted to Sonic ice today! I remember my mother making REAL hot chocolate and putting it into the thermos and taking it to the games for us to drink to keep warm on those chilly nights. We also attended TCU football games when I was a little girl and that was always fun. Though our family pretty much bled purple, my sister, Donna, loved the Longhorns. At that time, the Southwest Conference was still intact and there was nothing like a Saturday afternoon at Amon Carter Stadium when the Longhorn band took the field. Through the years, Autumn has always signaled football and it is one of my favorite things about the season! I also LOVE Thanksgiving! I always feel kind of sad that the world seems to skip right to Christmas, because I love everything about Thanksgiving! I especially love it now, because we celebrate it at our house and it so fun getting everything all ready for the big day. Sometimes, my parents will come up and spend the night and mom and I will get everything going. I love all the smells, the great tasting food, the afternoon filled with Cowboy football, nighttime leftovers and of course, board games! I love watching all the kids play football in the back yard, and I love sifting through the memories with my mom, my girls, sisters and all the family! I also love the smell of the fireplaces starting to burn, all the amazing pumpkins in the yards, and the giggles of children as they get ready for lots of fun.
I believe Autumn has always been viewed as the season where things begin to die, where winter is just around the corner and the sun may be in hiding more than we want. But, I choose to think of Autumn as one of God's most beautiful masterpieces...the most vibrant colors in the trees and the landscape, lingering sunsets, and cooler weather.
I pray that Autumn will bring many blessings to your life!

It's good to hear from you! I love autumn, too, and I agree that I dislike the skip from Halloween to Christmas. Bring back Thanksgiving! :) I hope your family enjoys wonderful holidays this year!
What memories come rushing back: everyone at Tom's, Aunts Bonnie, Vesta and Hazel bringing their favorite dishes;Donna, Mindy, David,Kippie, Kellie, Stephanie, and Leisha the little kids, then later Christine, Emily, Brad, etc. being the little kids. Thanksgiving in Missouri with just us, and now at your home where Peter, Nathan, Jared, Melissajo, Marykate, Jack and now Sam, filling the roll of "the little kids. One thing that has remained constant: A loving God that wraps his arms around all of us as we gather to give thanks for all our blessings.
Speaking of ballgames... See you tomorrow from across the field. How wierd is that. I have a feeling we better bundle up! It is definitely football weather! Bring your blankie! Love ya.
