Where is God on Saturday?

"Real wisdom, God's wisdom, begins with a holy life and is characterized by getting along with others. It is gentle and reasonable, overflowing with mercy and blessings, not hot one day and cold the next, not two-faced. You can develop a healthy, robust community that lives right with God and enjoy its results only if you do the hard work of getting along with each other, treating each other with dignity and honor." James 3:17-18 The Message

I have been taught all my life that living a life in Christ, wisely and honestly, serving God and others, is just about the most important thing there is. My parents are amazing. Even today, they continue to teach this to us through their lives, and our children are so blessed to have them as an example.

I am honored to work in Children's Ministry at a church where God is first, period. I get to go to work and be around people who have made it their life's work to serve God and others in a church setting. God's wisdom is so evident in our leadership. They are honest, loving and seek to honor God in all that is done. Over the past three years, they have spent much time in prayer and time in fasting to get us where we are today. This Saturday, we step out in faith and begin a new service, complete with instrumental music, which is a change for us, and an amazing program for our children and the children of the community. Our doors are open to any who want to come. If you would like to read more about this decision, I would encourage you to go to www.rhchurch.org and click on "The Both/And Church". We also have two Sunday morning services, as we have for many years.

The point of my post, however is this. When this was announced and preparations began to welcome even more people to hear the message of Jesus, I was having a conversation with my precious, precious niece, Melissa Jo. She had come over to help me clean up my house (something she really loves to do!), and I asked her if she had any questions about all the changes that are going on at church. Her only question was this..."Is God there on Saturday?". I stopped what I was doing and sat down with her. She knew this answer. She is a wonderful worker in the kingdom at the tender age of 6 (and a half!). But, still, I asked her if she really wondered about this. She said that someone had told her that you only go to church on Sunday, because that's when God is there. She said she knew that wasn't true, but it made her sad. When I asked her why, she said to me..."Aunt Mindy, God is everywhere, even on Saturday! It makes me sad that everyone doesn't know this. We need to tell them!" I prayed with JoJo that night. A grown-up prayer, kind of. She joined in and asked God to let everyone know that He will be there on Saturday. When we finished our talk, our prayer, and got back to the cleaning, she was smiling so big. I asked her what she was up to. She told me that she loved going to church....ANY day!

That night, I thanked God, once again, for my parents, for the faith they introduced us to, for the example they set for our children. I thanked Him for my "little sister", Marianne, and her husband, Jeff, and for the way they are leading their precious girls. I thanked Him for letting us all grow at our own pace and in His time. I thanked Him for wisdom, and peace.

No matter where we are in our faith, God's plan is unfolding all the time. It is a plan that knows no bounds in reaching others.

"...a healthy, robust community that lives right with God, and enjoys getting along, treating each other with dignity and honor..." That's right where I want to be.

Be blessed today!
