A moment I'll always remember...

This morning at church, one of our ministers, Ricky, brought me a "portable" communion set that belonged to his grandfather. He loaned it to me so that I could take it up to the hospital for my daddy and mama. We put the necessary things in the little case and took it to the hospital.

Melissa Jo was so proud to carry it into the room. After a little while, my daddy told everyone in the room that he needed to talk to his kids and my mama. For the first time in a very long time, it was just the 6 of us. He told us he had some things he wanted to say to us and then he read a letter he had penned earlier in the day. These were difficult things for him to say, I am sure, but equally difficult to hear. But, there was such a peace in the room after he finished. Then, kind of spontaneously, the 6 of us took communion together.

I don't remember the last time we all did this together. But, I do know that because someone knew it would be important to my parents, we were able to do so. That is a moment I'll always remember. Thanks...Ricky and Alison for sharing such a sweet treasure with our family!

I am a little fidgety tonight. The two most important men in my life are sick. I am looking to God to give me strength, just as He always has. Last night at church, David F. talked about "last words about first things" and how we should always make sure we remember what is really important.

This is what I know...God loves us. God will be in control in that operating room tomorrow and in the waiting room, also. My daddy knows that we love him, and we know that he loves us. He also knows that no matter the outcome of tomorrow, his salvation is sure. What a blessed and comforting thought.

Whenever you might come upon this post, please lift my family up in prayer. We are honored to serve such a loving and merciful God...and tonight, I am asking for an extra measure of mercy for my daddy.

Be blessed...

That is so very special. I know there was not a dry eye in the room. Thoughts are with you today.

OH Mindy - I just found these 2 posts about your Daddy - know that as I listened to "Amazing Grace" streaming from your blog, I asked the Lord for healing for him, for peace for you and your family . . .and for rest from trials for you, dear one. Love you.

Mindy, you are certainly in our prayers today - not only for your father, your husband, but also for Christine, who is so very precious to all of us. We just pray that the doctors will find what is needed to help them all to recover and to again do those things they like to do. We also say a special prayer for you and what you are going through right now--your are bearing a lot of heartache today and we know that with the strength and comfort that God gives you, you will be able to face each day knowing this.
We love you and each member of your family.
Ruben and Naomi.

I know! It wasn't the same without Mickey Jack at John's party. He kept asking about him!

Sorry I stopped your heart for a minute! :) We haven't had them in small group more than a few times and really look forward to when they can come more often! It's so great for John when Jack can be there!

Amazing how time can "appear" when you least expect it. yes, I ran across this blog - very much later than it was written.. and have done just what was asked.. to stop and say a prayer for your whole family - biological/extended/church family that you so graciously serve. Thank you for allowing us to see just how special all pieces of that "family" really is. Because HE is special, he made YOU special. Thank you for making a Large part of MY family's summer special too. You are precious and I love you.
